My name is Simon Makin and I am a lighting cameraman with over 10 years experience in shooting and lighting, working on some of the biggest shows on the national networks (BBC, ITV, Channel 4) and equally at home with Independent Production companies and corporate work.
I believe there are a few reasons the UK's biggest broadcasters and highly regarded Independents consistently engage my services.
Firstly, I work with the Director and producer's vision. This may seem obvious, but I adjust my shooting and lighting techniques with every single job.
I don't stick with tried and tested techniques if the project requires something extra - and I am happy to suggest other shots and lighting conditions that may benefit the work.
Second, I am based in the North West of England - almost exactly central to the UK and therefore able to attend locations North, South, East & West with ease.
Third, Since going freelance I pride myself with having a large amount of equipment in my van including Jib, track, HD Minicam and HMI lights. If you suddenly need, say a mini jib it's as simple as a trip to my van.
Fourth, time is money; I work at speed, but with the highest quality at all times. Plus, Editors are always grateful for the amount of cutaways and GV's I always provide.
Fifth; I love my work. I don't consider it a job, I consider it a vocation. I believe I work well with people and have two rules; you're only as good as your last job, and I'm here to provide solutions, not problems.
